Most, if not all, handicrafts shops runs by Kashmiri's in Fort Kochi and the lane leading to Synagogue in Mattanchery are likely to stock Sheeshas. On mainland, Khataisons Curio Palace on M.G Road( next to Hotel Avenue Regent) might have sheeshas on sale.

It would probably be more laborious to produce a disfunctional one.
So, yes, I'd expect them to work. But then as so often what do I know anyway; was unaware of them being produced or on sale in the region in the first place.
