Roads in Kerala in Bad Shape
The Roads and Highways that I saw and travelled on recently in
Kerala are an Absolute Disgrace.
The Ruling Pre Election Govt needs a Good KICK in the BUTT for
allowing the Roads to Deteriorate into such a Poor condition.
There was one time whilst in Kochi, I took an auto and felt like
a Milkshake after the 15min Journey,The Potholes are Shocking.

It is good to hear that the state of Maharashtra does not have a monopoly on bad roads!
On a more sober note though, one would expect Kerala with such a large tourism industry, to ensure that roads are well maintained at all times.
Hey Vandy, where is your trip report?

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ~

It is always like this. Don't let anyone fool you to believe that a change of state or local government will have any impact on the roads. The political parties of Kerala, communist and congress, are a joke. The only way to improve road conditions in Kerala is to use companies who use correct techniques for laying asphalt. Only then will the roads be level and long lasting. But the commission system has effectively stopped the creation of consistent, high quality roads. And so it will, probably, remain.
Of course, the people in charge of tourism development want high quality roads, but they have nothing to do with road development.
Any improvement does rely on better road laying methods but it seems cost is the major factor. Laying tarmac on a bed of sand as I have seen is pointless as the sand gets washed away and takes the tarmac with it. In Ernakulam I saw them put tarmac over a leaking underground waterpipe! Needless to say within two weeks the water had destroyed the new road! In Kochi I did hear that all new road contracts had to guarantee a 10 year life - hmmmmm!
