I was recently there and it was a neat place. Next time when I go there I will take some pictures and post it here.

During our visit to Cochin (Ernakulam), we ate at Ambiswamy’s Vegetarian Restaurant, M. G. Road. This was fast food Indian style. I ate a masala dosa that was very good and crisp. The fare offered included paper dosas, ghee (clarified butter) dosas, onion uttappas, idlis, vadas, chapattis and parotas, all delivered with amazing efficiency and speed.

We also tasted the Kerala lunch next day.. It was very authentic traditional one. Local guy we met there told that it taste like Home made food.

If we want to savour the real Kerala, these small food joints are real place for that.

Tasty, Hygenic and Damn cheap also .. The real Authentic Traditional mouthwatering Kerala vegetarian dishes in a hygenic environment.

beware the authority of the post above. the name, country and grammar combined make it very smelly to the point where a responsible careful website would probably remove it. very few new zealanders are proficient in indian english..

Agreed, but I found Ambiswamy's decent all the same. I had only breakfast there though -- and it opens as early as 7 am.

Ambiswamy's place is a good one . We do not care y2bugsbunny is from Kerala or even from Kochi. Ambiswamy does not need an endorsement from the indiamike to do his business . There are so many unassuming places which serves good food at reasonable prices and there is enough local support to it .

Recommendations can be very useful for tourists who only have a short time in a town or city. I spend quite a lot of time in Kochi but have never been to Ambiswamys - maybe next time I will go there for a meal.

Golden Dragon in Vazhakkala

I liked Golden Dragon in Vazhakkala. Nice chinese restaurant; in fact, it did not taste like our regular Indian-Chinese.

The Grand Hotel's dining room in Ernakulam is good. The food excellent, well-priced, the service could be better but for a classy joint for lunch, it's my first choice. Take a table away from the toilet area and get those waiters moving!

Kerala Thali

Here's a photo of my delicious thali in the Open Room restaurant, Hotel Arches, where we stayed last January. We had to order this meal a day in advance, but it was very traditional, lavish, delicious, delicately served by brilliant staff on washed banana leaves, with finger bowls too, AND only cost 400rp for the two of us. Fantastic.
