Recommended hostels/hotels in Quilon, Alleppey and Cochin

Can anyone recommend rooms for 2 people in Quilon, Alleppey and Cochin? Price we are looking at is budget to medium.

We will be there in the week before Christmas, do you think it is worth booking?

Many thanks

Quilon Hotels

Karthika , off Main Road, near the Mosque tel 0474/751821. A large and popular budget hotel with clean, plain rooms (some a/c). very handy for the railway station and the jetty. You can hire cable TV for a night (Rs20). Rs200-300.

KTDC Yatri Nivas, across from the jetty tel 0474/745538. Modern, clean rooms (two a/c) with attached bathrooms Rs200-400.

Palm Lagoon , Vellimon West tel 0474/523974. In a beautiful location on Ashtamudi Lake but a good 15km from town. Pleasant thatched cottages and with breakfast or full board, good Ayurvedic treatment facilities, and the opportunity to explore the backwaters.Rs1500-2500.

Sudarsan, Parameswar Nagar tel 0474/744322. this place features a wide range of rooms, some with a/c and cable TV. Rs400-2500.

I agree with Haritha, try Sona Tourist Home - it's a beautiful old Keralan House a little way our of town run by a retired civil servant and his wife and son. He's a bit bossy but very sweet and interesting.
