Rain and later - mosquitoes

Can someone let me know what is the flood situation like in Kerala now.
I have read about some floods/landslides in the nothern parts near Kozhikode.
And also - what about our lovely friends mosquitoes?
Are they out and about now?
How easily can I buy repellents during my holiday?
Are they sold in pharmacies?

Thanks
Iza

The rain in Kerala has eased off as it usually does in August. Consequently, flooding and landslides don't impact on everyday life as they did just a month ago.

There are mosquitoes all over Kerala, except for the absolute highest points, all year round. Generally, there are a lot of mosquitoes except in places where there are few humans; where we live, for instance, which is on a hill side with only a handful of houses, we see less than five mosquitoes a day, whereas in the nearest town, Kumily, you'll see hundreds from around 5 pm till 8 pm.

I use Odomos, an Indian repelling lotion (white bottle), which contains 12% deet, and it works very well. A bottle costs Rs. 60 and can be bought in many shops, not just pharmacies.

You can read the latest news from Kerala in the following online newspapers:

yes i swear by odomos. You need to apply it every evening after 4 pm liberally on your hands(all over upto arms) and feet (ankles and toes mainly). Do it again about 8:00 pm and then a little just before bed time. You will have a mosquito free night.

Theoretically, Odomos, being 12%, is not strong enough to last all night.

Theoretically it might not last all night, but once asleep who cares!

50% or more.

Maybe if you take a bottle with you you can use it at night, using odomos during the day.

Mossie repellants are widely tested, if you do some googling you can probably find references to the tests and duration results for various products.
