We are three guys and a girl that is going to travel in the Kerala in November for 3 weeks.
First I want to know if the girl going to have any problem in Hotels to share a room with the men. Since none of us is married. Secondly, the girl wants to stay for a night on a river boat. How expensive is it, and is it worth the money. And how and where do we book this river boat… Thirdly – Does anyone know how mutch it cost to hire a car and driver for a period (Lets say 2 weeks) or is it better to hire a car and drive it yourself. |

two years ago I was with two friends in south india. we were two girls and one man, and always shared a room (and sometimes the only bed). We had absolutely no problems. Maybe the people are still wondering what kind of strange "couple" we were. Just ask for a doubleroom, maybe they have big ones with two beds in it.
We also rented a boat on the backwaters. Just for us, that means three guests, one cook, two boatmen. We had two rooms, each with shower and toilet. It was great and so relaxing and wonderful. I can't remember the specific amount, but it was something around 100 dollar for us (and it was absolut worth it). Including, the taxidrive from kovallam to the boat, the food (which was unbelieveable good and so much). We stayed 24 hours on the boat, from about 10 a.m until 10 a.m next day. The only thing you had to pay extra was for any alcohol (e.g. beer). It was so wonderful, that we done it again last year You can book the boat in any travel agency in kerala. If you have more questions about that, just mail me. |

Hi
Most hotels will not permit 4 adults in a double room - maybe three at the most with an extra bed. Look out for hotels with family rooms -which accept 4 and more-or dorms. A cruise down the backwaters is and will be the highlight of a trip to Kerala The price for four of you would be approx Rs5500/6000 (about $120/130) depending on the quality of the boat and the season In Nov it should be around Rs 5500 I guess The boat should be two bedroom (attached Toilets/showers) with all meals included. The trip would be a round trip - about 22hrs In off -season the rates fall drastically to $70/80 Lastly I would recommend that you hire a cab with driver for a short stay. If staying longer - for a few months - its advisable to drive yourselves. Rates would be around Rs 1300/day ($ 23/25 )with driver for a non Ac car. Check with ventureholidays@yahoo.co.in for rates/deals I live in Trivandrum/Kerala if you need any help/info drop a line at lady2byrd@yahoo.com |
