question on the keralan temples
question on the keralan temples
does anyone know where ther are the conical style temples in southern kerala. Say in Alleppey and Trivandrum. I am tying to find them.Most temples ive seen so far in Kerala ard tamil style.
actually most kerala temples have tiled ( either clay or metal ) roofs with some distant influence of the chinese pagoda concept. there are some temples in south kerala with tamil-influenced gopurams ( like in padmanabha swamy temple, trivandrum ).
Kerala temple architecture is quite unique. some related links below :

Guruvayur temple, Thrissur Vadakkumnathan temple, etc are some examples.
yes, there are some temples which are circular and therefore have conical roofs. cant remember the names..

In Trivandrum you can try the Shankumukham temple near the airport.
I am not sure what you meant by Tamil style. Actually the style across temples in south is similar, with rectangular boundaries (sometime multiple layers) encircling the main building where the deity is hosted (yeah you start using such terms - thanks to the MNC exposure
)

I think he means the 'vimana' or gopuram style as it's known in TN. You know how the temples look in TN.
