Power Plugs/Currency/Salwars
Hey Everyone!!!
I am wondering whether the cord that charges my camera will work in Kerala? I live in Canada and curious if these types of plug ins will also charge in Trivandrum style wall plugs? What kind of currency should I bring & are travellers checks the best way to go? I am buying salwars to wear for most days...how much should I budget for clothing, I am staying 1 month so I want to buy a few....Are salwars expensive or relatively cheap? Thanks! |

I can help you with 2 out of 3.
You'll need an adapter for the wall plugs (2 round pins - available at The Source or your local electronic shop), and make sure the transformer on your camera charger can handle 240V or it will be fried. Not many people use travellers cheques any more. There are ATMs everywhere. I usually bring a credit card, a debit card and about $200 in cash for emergencies. |

Salwar
Price will depend on the quality/quantity of material you choose, then add stitching.

the price of the salwar suits can range from 200 - 20000 and more depending upon what you buy and where you buy. You cna get readymade ones too.

Regarding power adapter plugs, I recently bought an adapter for our upcoming India trip (hooray!!) It says on it for 'most' parts of India? Is there possibly more than 1 type of plug in India? ??
Thanks in advance. |

India follows the 3 pin concept (earthed). However, the 2 pin variants also will work (except that such devices are not earth protected). The new plug points may have a combination of different types of plugs. The ones in some hotels have 2 three-pin plugs (1 small and 1 large). In some new hotels and offices, the plug allow Indian type pins as well as the US type pins(you will still need a voltage converter unless your adapter support 240V).
2 pictures added for reference. The marks you see on the 1st pictures are the pen marks which is used to push the plastic protecter in the large pin (as a safety measure so that kids cannot push nails or other things to only one and get the shock of their life) 3 Pin Plug with Small and Large types in single point ![]() 3 Pin Plug with Indian and US Style pins (You will still need Voltage Adapter) ![]() Admin, I have added the pictures from my gallery. If there is any easier way, please let me know. Last edited by marar : Jun 29th, 2009 at 14:33. Reason: Added photos |
