I'm planning to be in Kerala in December (01) and would like some recomendations of good places to go.
I like walking, people, cultural aspects, food and real experiances. I'm not looking for the LP trail.
Your help is most appreciated

Munnar
Munnar is the place to go (and walk!) , there are several hotels, mainly it's a tea trading center - but I guess you will enjoy.

Gerlinde
where's off the beaten path?
Gary,
I am expecting to be in Kerala not too long after you (Jan-Feb next year?). I don't have any recommendations unfortunately (as I've never been there yet) but if you find a cool spot such as Gerlinde mentioned let us know!! There are still a small enough number of people here that it'll never become like a LP guide...

Hi
Suggest you check out a hill station called Peermede about 35 kms from Thekkady (Periyar Wildlife Reserve).
Has all that Munnar offers and more - tea, spice, rubber plantations, walking and treking trails, lush meadows, great misty mountain ranges, wonderful views of cascading waterfalls, a century old colonial country club, a well known ayurvedic center with its herbs museum and garden etc.
The best part of Peermede is that you could avoid staying at Thekkady and could do a day trip to the sanctuary and return. Buses ply every 15/20 mins between Peermede and Thekkady
A new heritage resort called the Wood Palace Resort located on
the mountain range, overlooking the valley has recently opened its doors. Economical with standard and deluxe doubles and a suite. Price ranges from 15 dollars onwards to 40 dollars
Contact Email city office (Trivandrum)
