Place to stay in Kottayam

Any recommendations on somewhere to stay in Kottayam - preferably the centre?? I am very familar with the city itself, having worked near there for some time a few months back, but now find myself needing to actually base myself there for a few days next week but have no idea on hotels, no guide book and the only suggestions from acquaintances have been the-pricey-end of-the-market places in Kumarakom..... any ideas much appreciated. Thanks.
