Padmanabhapuram from Trivandrum and back

I'm planning to visit Padmanabhapuram palace from Trivandrum and return the same day. Can you please suggest me the fastest way to do this( public transport preferred)? Also I would like to know if buses are easily available from Thuckalay to Trivandrum. Thanks.

Sorry for the typo in the title. It should have been Padmanabhapuram.

Sorry, I don't know about public transport. We have members in that area: hope they can help.

I have visited the palace on the way to Kanyakumari, and I have also been just to the palace --- but only by travels car.

Thanks Nick. Can you share the experience you had there? Is it worth a visit?

I am not too sure about buses; but I guess it wouldn't be a problem. Both TN and KL states buses run in that route and you probably won't have to wait long for either one. Just check the dedicated TNSTC corner of the TVM central bus stand; they always seem have a bus waiting to start off in that route.

My visit to the palace from another forum:

Just make sure you are on your way as early as possible. You will be travelling over some extremely congested roads.

Yes, it is well worth a visit. I'm not much of an architecture buff, but I've been there twice and will go again.

Thank you everyone. Visited Padmanabhapuram palace on saturday 7th July with my friend. Took a TNSTC bus headed to Nagercoil from Thiruvananthapuram's main bus stand at Thampanoor around 9.30 a.m and got down at Thuckalay around 11.15. A 5 minute auto-rickshaw ride took us to the Palace. We spent around 2 hours there with the guidance of the staff. The palace is really awesome. Definitely, will go again. We got a KSRTC bus back to TVM around 2 p.m and reached by 3.30 p.m. A delightful experience thanks to IMers.
