Thripunithura Athachamayam

The 10-day harvest festival of Onam is the most eagerly awaited festival of Kerala. For a taste of the spectacular events held across the State to mark the beginning of the Onam, known as the Athachamayam, we recommend Thripunithura in Kochi.
These include a dazzling procession of caparisoned elephants, colourful floats, and the staging of some of the awesome art forms of Kerala that include the Theyyam, Panchavadyam, Chendamelam, Pambamelam, Karakattam, Mayilattom, Ammankudam, Aattakavadi, Pulikali, and so on. Floral carpets, a trademark of Onam, are also seen.
Getting there:
Nearest railway station: Thripunithura, about 1 km away.
Nearest airport: Cochin International Airport, about 30 km from Thripunithura.
