November Kerala Trip

Hello folks,

So I'm traveling to Kerala in November. A couple of questions:

-- Is it easy to hire a private taxi from Periyar to Kochi, and how much do you think it would be? I've found this - http://www.keralataxi.com/cartypes1.htm - but I'm guessing anyone who can put their company on the net is also gonna jack up the prices.
-- Any suggestions on where to stay in Periyar/Thekkady? Budget is about 1000Rs, preferably a little less.

This is my provisional itinerary. Any comments?!?..

19th - Arrive Cochin airport, travel to Alleppey
20th - Alleppey
21st - 1 night Houseboat trip to Kumarakom/Kottayam
22nd - Travel to Periyar
23rd - Periyar
24th - Periyar
25th - Travel to Kochin
26th - Depart

As ever, thanks for any help.

Kindly check with seasoned travelers about the November Climate in Kerala.

Since you are traveling with your father, its advisable to double check on the weather. Its gonna rain cats and dogs in Kerala in the month of november as usual.

Do check it out and then plan.

Regards

Good day,

It may be best to hire a car & driver for your whole trip.

A A/C Ambassador is around 1,400rps per day all inclusive, the
same for an Indica or Indigo.

Look in Hotels section at top of page for hotel reviews in Kumily - Thekady - Periyar which are all the same area.
In the price range you mention, I suggest Mickeys Cottage. No Meals there though, however you can walk 5mins to Ambadi Hotel
which has a very good restaraunt.

You will be able to hire a private taxi from Thekady BUT you will be charged for Return journey, expect to pay approx 1,500rps
to 2,000rps.

Airport to Allepey approx 1,200rps.

bsprasad - thanks for the heads up.

vandy - a quick question about private taxis: do i need to arrange it in advance, or can i just walk out of Kochi airport and get a taxi to Allepey? Likewise, from Thekady to Kochi?

i did consider hiring a car for the whole trip, but as we'll be on a houseboat one night, and we'll want to walk most places once near Periyar, doesn't really seem worth paying for the extra days.

Cheers

Ha Ha Ha......

October is the Monsoon starting season in Kerala and It will continue to spill over in November too.

Check it out and then procced. House boat during a rainy time is really lovely. But visiting others places during the rains is not that enjoyable.

Prasad sir, I would somehow not agree with this. October is when the monsoon comes to an end in Kerala as most of the rains Kerala receives is from the south-west monsoons. Its only in TN that the rains start from october.

@ journo, I stayed in Mickey's in Periyar and found it to be good for INR 500. Another option is coffee Inn, which offers meals as well. This is very closely located to the Forest dept gate. If you would want to stay inside the reserve forest, the best option would be Periyar house (Kerala tourism corporation's hotel)

You could also refer to my log on the Periyar visit to get an idea of things to do in periyar

There is a Pre Paid taxi Booth inside the airport, I have not
heard of anyone using the Pre Paid Booth for a taxi from the Airport to Allepey.

You can try it and see how it goes,If you feel they are overcharging, you can walk out of Airport carpark and negoiate a
Taxi that way.

If you want to arrange a Private taxi in advance try contacting
the following, Inspire Kerala - Fourens Travel - Drizzle Holidays and get some prices.

In Thekady ask at your place of accomodation where to hire a cab
for Cochin.

I too was in Thekady area last October and yes there was a BIT
of Unseasonal rain, mainly at Night time.

There are loads of accom options in same road as Mickeys Cottage(this road is called Bypass Road)another place to stay which comes to mind is Greenview.
