Hi All,

Need some tips and help from u experienced folks out thr..
Have come up with an iternary but i need ur opinion to make it complete...
Lets get back to my plan..

Jan 25 --> will reach ernakulum by train at 9.00 am(Chk into hotel ). Hire a cab OR Rick and go for a ride in the boat which shows arnd COChin.. heard its pretty good. Then plan to move arnd places in Cochin. (Travelling with Parents --> Can u suggest some inetersting places )

Jan 26 --> Morning. Leave for Munnar.(Reach by afternoon). Do some sight seeing and stay there on 26 and 27th.
Question --> Are there enough places for me too visit in these two days. My parents cant trek but they like to see different places. Also wht would be the best possible way to move around. I mean do i book the cab from Cochin and roam in Munnar with the same guy OR is it economical to come to Munnar and book a cab.

Jan 27 --> Still in Munnar. ( I am planning to stay two days in Munnar. Can u guys suggest some places)

Jan 28 --> Move for trivandrum.
Question --> Where do i squeeze in the back waters ride. Should I do it in Komarakam Or Allepey. I dont intend to stay in these places. I need to knwo whether it is possible for me to take the back waters ride on my way to Trivandrum. Any suggestions as to how do i go about it. How much time time will it take to go to Komarakam Or Allepey take the bacj waters ride and then go to trivandrum. Do i take a new cab for the travel.
Please suggest.

Jan 28 --> Stay over at Trivandrum and do some shopping or visit places if time permits.

Jan 29 --> visit Kovalam beach, Padmanabh Temple, and the hill station nearby. Can this be done in one day.

Jan 30 --> Either move to Madurai and move for Mumbai on Jan 31
OR
Directly catch a train back to Mumbai from Trivandrum.
Still need to figure it out.

Waiting for your response guys.

Regards,
MM

Hi there,

Go through the Kerala Threads and you'll find some places to sightsee in Munnar, such as Matupetty Dam & then onto Top Station
This can take up one whole day.

From Munnar head for either Kumarakom or Allepey, would be a good 4-5hr journey by car.You may need to spend 1 night in Backwater area and then go on Houseboat next day.

Reccomend you hire a Car & Driver in Kochi for your Munnar trip
and then onto Backwaters, where you can finish your car hire or
use the same for transport to Tnvdm, or you can catch train from
Allepey to Tvndm.

After Madurai you may need to go to Chennai for Train to Mumbai
via Bangalore or Backtrack to Kochi and catch train up west coast via Goa. Its possible to have car & Driver for entire way
to Madurai and then return to Kochi with same driver.

There are three trains from Madurai to Mumbai.

Train 1066 Madurai (MDU) 18:00 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) 05:45 running only on Saturday

Train 6340 Mumbai Express MDU 11:50 CSTM 20:50 running only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays

And the train mentioned by Kumar running on Thursdays and Sundays leaving MDU 09:50 reaching CSTM 20:50

Agree with Vandy--would hire a driver from Cochin to Munnar ...and perhaps have the driver stay there and drive you back to Alleppey.
You can take houseboat from Alleppey to Kollam--about 8 hours boat trip?
From Kollam you can get train, or hire driver for route to Trivandrum.

Taxi rate for Indica is Rs 8.00 per KM. Distance between Cochin and Munnar is 130KMs. You will have to pay extra for return trip. Daily tip is around Rs 150.

Instead of going for separate Taxi for each journey, better option would be to negotiate and fix a rate for entire trip.

So this might be a really stupid question but if the driver stays in Munnar for the return. Where do they stay the night? Are all drivers from Cochin knowledgeable to know the sites of Munnar as well?

Some hotels provide shared accomodation for drivers, else they sleep in car. Most drivers should know the popular destinations in Munnar as they are in the industry and Munnar is close to Cochin. Another option is to catch BUS to Munnar and hire taxi for local sight seeing in Munnar?
