Need help in planning 4 day trip to Cochin

Will be in Cochin from 4th-7th July

What is the best way to get to the hotel from airport, ask the hotel to arrange pick-up?

What are the hotels to stay with family/wife in the range of Rs.1000-Rs1500 per night (Clean,A/c,TV& warm water).

Any hotels close to all the action of boat trips.

Want to do Cochin Boat Tour
http://www.ktdc.com/Tours.htm

Want to do backwaters, stay in houseboat for a night.
Where to go-Kumarakoan or Alleppey?

Any good restaurants/clubs to hang out at nights?

Whole lot of questions-Thanks in advance for your time & patience

There are lots of hotels on M G road. which is the main market area. I dont know much about the boat tour. because we were for just 1 day in cochin on our trip from munnar and kumarakom.

If you are looking for some good restaurants go to 'hotel grand' on M G road, which specializes in seafood/non veg keralite food. It is populer among locals. crowded and so gets quite noisy during peak hours. But if you are a foodie u wont mind that

about kumarkom u must reserve the hotel prior if you are visiting in high season. U can do the houseboat booking from jetty or with the help of your hotel. We stayed in hotel 'backwater resort' at kumarkom. It has one of the best locations and views of vembanad lake. priced around rs 3500(all meals) (its better to opt for all meals inclusive plan in kumarkom as not much restaurants around.)

There are many hotels in MG Road and the surrounding area to suit all budgets. One you might consider is the Sealord Hotel in Shanmugham Road which is within your budget. I have heard it is O.K. and the roof top restaurant serves good food and has a great view of the harbour area. It is close to the ferry jetty. There are plenty of restaurants in the area and in Ernakulam there is Frys Village restaurant which serves excellent food at good prices and is used by the locals (always a good sign).
The one day boat trip along the backwaters can be booked at the ferry jetty and is a great day out. If I were spending 4 days in the area I would either do the one day backwater trip or the overnight trip but not both.
There is not much nightlife in Cochin (leastways not that I have seen) and by 10pm it all goes very quiet and probably more so in July which is not high tourist season.

In cochin you might want to check out Coco Tree and Longevity. First one is a coffe place, and the next one is a pub. There are good restaurants in fort cochin. Visit kashi art cafe.

Also do make use of this offer if you are flying to cochin - Jet2Kerala - Fly to Kerala At the Cheapest Rates Possible

Please do post a review also..

I agree with the recommendations for the Kashi Arts Cafe. I spent many happy hours there drinking chai.

Whilst in Cochin you should also look for some Kathakali performances, really worth seeing, in my opinion.

And there is a fantastic bookshop called Idiom. Actually, there are 2 of them - one on Fort Cochin and another one (arguably even better stocked) in Jew Town, not far from the Synagogue.

The Synagogue of Cochin is well worth visiting. It is one of the oldest in India.

For food, try to have a fish cooked for you in one of the dhabas next to the Chinese fishing nets.

You might want to visit some attractions within Cochin like the Jew Town, the spice filed and busy broadways and some insane speciality resturants like the Dal Roti in Fort Kochi and others.

How is the bus service to Munnar, any Volvo or good bus opearator?

Assuming a taxi will cost between Rs1200-1400 per day that leaves Rs1600-1800 per day for a hotel. This will get you a reasonable hotel such as the Munnar Inn. On that basis it is good value. Check that the driver knows his way around Munnar and the places you want to visit.
