Munnar in December - walking boots required?

Hi,

I'm thinking of going to Munnar for a few days in mid December (as part of a 3.5 week trip to Kerala & Tamil Nadu) and would like to do some trekking. I'd rather not bring walking boots as I'm trying to travel as light as possible. If anyone has been there at that time of year do you think sturdy walking type sandals would be sufficient or would it be too cold and/or wet for these?

Thanks!

I don't think you need heavy walking boots in that area.

Btw, Welcome to IndiaMike!

I have been to Munnar several times and just take sandals with a good gripping sole.

it depends on your feet ! if you are used to trekking in sandals then suit yourself. Better choose something with straps as munnar gets very dewy in december

umm it depends where are you trekking.if you going downhill you need a good walking shoe (like top station, munnar to plains,7 kms).if you are doing trekking in anamalai region this will be just short trip you dont need anything. In chinnar regions also plains so you dont need shoes.Let us know your experience.

Hey Suzie

Munaar is an awesome high range. You wouldnt be requiring boots.Normal sports sneakers are fine. When are you exactly planning to reach kerala.

Cheers,
Jim

Sturdy thick soled sports shoes with a good grip will do like Bata / Nike / Reebok etc., unless you intend doing any rock climbing.

Not sure about the walking boots, but I have just worked out its going to be pretty chilly up there in December.
Will be a bit of a shock to the system to someone like me who lives in the tropics
