Hi,

There is no volvo bus between Cochin / Kochi and Munnar

There is KSRTC and private buses between Cochin and Munnar , which are regular buses

Heyy.. thank you so much for your information.
But I need some more help.
Do you have any 1st hand information on these buses? Are they comfortable enough?

And also if I hire a car from Cochin to Munnar.. how much would it charge me?
We are three in number travelling, so an indica or similar would do.
Please help!

Hi,

These are just regular buses that we see on the roads here inany part of Kerala .

if you ask if hey are comfortable enough! , then it depends
i wouldn't mind taking it , but the issue is how many days you stay in Munnar ? if it is for 1 night i wouldnt recommend you to take one , because it takes 5-6 hours depending on the traffic and if you are starting after breakfast from Ernakulam , that means you reach munnar by 3-4 PM . by that time you check- in to your hotel, you dont have much time for your sightseeing trips . the next day again you have to start back by noon or later for your return journey back

if you want to save the cost on travelling , then it is a better option, as it cost less that INR 100 per person as against INR 2400- 2600 you would spend if you take a A/C cab from Cochin to drop you in Munnar ( and also if you have two nights in Munnar)

if you have kids , older people in the group then i would say , hiring a cab would be the most comfortable way to do it

and also it helps you to do the sightseeing, as places of sightseeing are spread in different routes

an A/C indica would cost INR 1500 per day for 150 kms , extra kilometer would be chargeable @ INR 9 per KM

say for eg: for a 2 nights 3 days trip to Munnar from Cochin , you would cover approx 400 kms in 3 days , which is well with in the kilometer usage limit of 450 kms for 3 days ( 150 X 3) , so the cost is approx 4500 , with toll, parking, driver bata , night allowance , fuel charges etc

I wouldn't advise buses, especially considering the way they drive in Kerala.

i am so glad for all your help.
But I guess I need some more of it.

Look, we are three people travelling. Me(23), My mom(49) and my sister(19). All of us are females travelling all alone.

Look the plan goes like these.
Kochi - Munnar - KodaiKanal - Chennai.

I have never been to these places before. I belong to Kolkata and am an alien to these parts of the country. Just heard and googled about them. So, any help/information that I get is useful to me.
If you could please help me with bit of details that you have.

Also, inform me if there is an option of shared vehicles like that of North India. And, if a hire a car, like say an Indica.. how much would it charge me

Hi ,

my point was , if you want to cut down your travelling/transportation cost then take bus , as it would be < INR 300 for 3 people ,there is absolutely no issues of safety / security issues for 3 females travelling , this is a regular bus by which i mean , it is not a point - to point bus , where as it stops in between at many stops, at times it would be crowded ,there is no advance booking, reach early than the bus departure time and get seated

from Munnar again you have public transport available to Kodaikanal, if not a direct bus , then i have read here you have buses to watalagundu ( tamilnadu side ) and then you get another bus to Kodai

if you want to make it a comfortable and wanted a trip with stops in between for refreshments , photo opportunites, if any altitude sickness, then hire a CAB

There is no option of shared vehicle in my knowledge to Munnar ( or for transport to any destination in Kerala )

if you meet someone/ guest during your stay in Kochi , then i would say you are lucky

the cost( per day on package basis) for the vehicle was given above

do write back if you have any clarifications

Hi,

the road as said above is high altitude , climbing down when you go to Tamilnadu from Munnar and climbing up when you drive to Kodaikkanal after crossing Tamilnadu border .There are some posts about Theni- pariyakulam - Kodai . google on the net , you would get enough information on other related forums as well

with rains you need not expect the road conditions to be good. it takes 4-5 hours to reach Kodai

I am planning for a Pune - Cochin - Munnar - Poovar - Trivandrum - Pune trip for the period of 15th to 20th August. We are a couple and will prefer a cab for the entire trip including sightseeing. Can anyone help with any recommendation for the car booking?
