mini trip to kerala

Looking for some advice. We are planning a 3-4 day side trip to Kerala from Hyderabad, shortly after Diwali. I would love to hear some ideas on where to go and how to get there. This will be a family trip with three little ones, so nothing tooooo exciting (this trip at least).
Thanks.

Planes from Hyderabad only go directly to Tirupati, Bangalore and Chennai in the south.

The train takes 26 hours to Cochin and 30 hours to Trivandrum.

You could consider the beaches and caves/hills near Vizag (1 hour flight), Chennai is also only a 1 hour flight, or head the other direction towards Hampi.

we did Vizag two years ago. Loved it. We will fly into Kerala, too far to do any other way. Wondering what to do while we are there?

Train 6526 departs Daily from Bangalore City at 21:00 and gets to Ernakulam Town (Kochi) at 09:35, (then Kottayam at 10:50)

Train 6525 departs Daily from Ernakulam Town at 14:35 (had stopped at Kottayam at 13:05) and gets to Bangalore City at 05:00. (it has 70 minutes 'make-up' time added, if train runs on time it could arrive at 03:50)

2A = Rs 1039
3A = Rs 669
SL = Rs 248

probably too long of a train ride for our motley crew. What about flying into Cochin and taking a train to Kochi?

I thought Cochin and Kochi are the same town with a new name.

WWUSA is right: Kochi, Cochin, Ernakulam, Fort Cochin and Willington Island - same city (different parts).

I have been to Kumarakom and stayed at Coconut LAgoon and Taj Kumarakom. Coconut Lagoon is special. Have not been to KLR but have jsut had some clients there who came back extremely happy.

Are you an NRI, Indian or a foreigner with a work permit? if so, you can avail of the Indian packages at this resort.

Steve has already filled you in wiht the trains.
