Making houseboat reservations?

Hello everyone,

My wife and I will be in Alleppey12/24-12/26 and in Kovalam 12/27-12/30. I can't wait to escape from the snow (it actually snowed here last night)

Because our schedule is so tight and it's a peak season, I'm trying to reserve a houseboat (overnight starting 12/25).

First I tried www.sreestours.com, who first said an overnight AC houseboat would be Rs. 8500, which I think is reasonable. But somehow they stopped responding (I called them up, they said they will replay the same day but that never happened). I'm also concerned that they are not based in Alleppey.

Then I contacted www.atdcalleppey.com. They emailed me back saying there's only one boat left on 12/25 and that would cost Rs. 17,500 for a couple. This sounds very much like a ripoff scheme, doesn't it

Can anybody recommend other places I can contact for making a houseboat reservation? Or do you guys think I can find one in the morning and start a trip at noon? I'm getting worried because it IS a peak season.

I usually avoid packages like mosquitoes, but this fits our busy schedule and reasonably priced for a peak season (about $370 including stay, food and additional activities). Well whether it is reasonable or not depends on the quality of the tour - I shall post a review after I'll come back

Can you post the review of your trip with coco tours? I am considering using them for a i night on a 2 bedroom houseboat and also a night in their coco huts. I am waiting for their quote but would like to know your experience with them.

Here is the company we used last March, absolutely great service, car/driver/hotel in Cochin and houseboat. Excellent arrangements.

I received a qute from Coco Tours for Rs. 18000 for 2 nights (one night in backwater cottage and 1 night in houseboat) for 4 persons. This seems to be quite reasonable compared to some of the other quotes I have received so far. I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with the company and if they are reliable and provide luxury accomodation and services. I am mainly concerned since I plan to take my parents and 2 year old for this trip.
I need to book the trip soon so any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

re the above quote, did you do this trip? Was the price 18000 total for everyone or per person?
