Madgaon to Cochin train travel
Hi,
I am planning to visit Kerala with my family (hum do hamare do) in November. I live in Sangli (Southwest Maharashtra). The problem is that nearest airport (Pune) is 4 to 5 hours away and does not offer nonstop flight to Cochin. Mumbai is an overnight journey.
While exploring rail routes to Cochin, I came across some trains from Madgaon, Goa to Cochin (Netrawati, HAPA -ten etc) that sound good - a 14 to 15 hour trip to Cochin. This sounds better than the route through Bangalore which means change of trains.
Has anybody traveled by this route to Cochin? I would like to know about your experiences.
Is November a good time to visit Kerala? My plan is to stay in Munnar for 3 days and alleppey for 1 day.
Thanks,
Sachin

We did that journey this year. Check for different trains as some are faster with less stops and I recall our journey was about 12 hours (Erankulam Express?). Journey was fine - we booked 2AC for comfort.
Suggest 2 days in Munnar is sufficient so add another to Alleppey.
November is fine in Kerala. You might get the occasional rain at night but day time is fine.

We did 3/4 of the journey you described in reverse - Ernakulam to Mookambika Road. There are umpteen trains on this route at different times of the day, including a Rajdhani and a Sampark Kranthi. If you are unable to get a suitable train, you might consider breaking your journey at Mangalore. Madgaon-Mangalore should be 6-8 hours depending on the train and Mangalore-Ernakulam is again 7-8 hours.
November is a great time to visit Kerala.

I traveled several times by train on this stretch, it's a nice journey with beautiful views. Would go for it again. As mentioned before, there are different train timings, just choose something that suits you.
