laptop vs. the monsoon

In early February I'll be heading to India for nine months, and will be spending all my time in Varanasi. A laptop will be going with me; any thoughts regarding it's care and feeding to see it through the wet and wild months? I'll be staying in a non-AC room. Will the high humidity be a real problem?

In advance, thank you.
Scott

THe Monsoon/humidity should have no bearing at all on your laptop. The monsoon seasons creates some interesting power surges/fluctuations and brown outs that are more of a concern. You should definitely consider a surge/spike protector for your equipment - available at reasonable price in India. The following is a sticky thread on Laptops where you may pick up some more valuable tips:

Peak and Lotus - Thank you. I lived with a laptop for ten winters in a small sailboat under the Sellwood Bridge in Portland. Glad to know it won't be any more difficult than that. Great links Peak! Namaste. Scott

Buy it wherever ... just make sure it is rated 240v and it doesn't blow your budget. If you're passing through Delhi, Nehru Place will have one - tested for the Indian environment 600-800rps.
