Unhappy Kuoni pull out of Uday Samudra

We have just been informed by our travel agent (Kuoni), that they have withdrawn from selling holidays to the Uday Samudra hotel with immediate effect and have offered us the Estuary Island near poovar instead. (They quote contractual & operational differences!).
Can anyone tell us if this is a good swop, bearing in mind that we rate dining out in the local bars/restuarants and seeing alot of the local area and culture, very highly on our list of priorities.
Kuoni have offered a full refund, but this will not cover cost of Visa's and airport parking which are already paid for.
ES website looks great, but can't find any reviews anywhere.

I have a copy of rough guide to Kerala. It gives no information at all on the Poovar area and a pretty poor description of Estuary Island.Or have I missed something ? Perhaps you could tell me which pages to read.

Probably this site is better, anyway.

I'm amazed that a major agent, if it must pull out of using a hotel at short notice, is unable to find another one in the kovalam area, which is just seething with hotels.

The Poovar place looks very nice. If I remember correctly (and I was hoping a local would answer your question) it is to the South, and your dining out and enjoying the Kovalam tourist thing will cost you auto or car journeys.

If it is any use to you, I can tell you who used to do my Kerala trips for several years from UK. A family firm, they will will produce a custom itinerary, and talk to you about the hotels, costs, pros, cons.

Thanks for that. We are still going with Kuoni and are staying 7 nights at Estuary Island, then a backwater trip and finishing up at Taj Green Cove. I think the Estuary is in a similar price range to UDS and that is why it was the option given to us. Anyway, we are happy with what we now have and are really looking forward to our trip.
