We want to spend a couple of days in Kollam for the Ashtamudi Festival and were wondering if anyone has been to the festival and could talk about what else there is to do in the area. Can you recommend a good place to stay and its cost?

I am not sure this festival is conducted every year.
The best way to find if they are conducting it or not is to contact District Tourism Promotion Centre Kollam They have also the accomodation options .Valiyavila would be a nice choice. The craft festival you need only day . A good opportunity to meet craftsmen for sourcing different things |

I checked and it seems its on every year...anyway, I know this is a very old thread, but was wondering if anyone else has been to this art and craft festival...I will be in Varkala when it starts and thought about popping along as I would like to buy one nice souvenir for this trip.
It's just some art and craft fairs are a total tourist targeted rip off, and would like to know if its worth going.
