Kollam Accomodation - Any need to pre-book?

I plan to be in Kollam between Christmas and New Year, around the 27th/28th/29th to be precise. Most likely stay 2 nights nd do a bit of canoe touring around the backwaters.

I've heard it's a small place and will be relatively quiet compared to Alleppey. Is that true?

Will there be a need to pre-book accomodation? I am looking for a budget/mid-range place. Don't want to spend more than 1,000rps a night thats for sure! Are hotels there in short supply or plenty to choose from when I get off the train at 8am?

I haven't asked for accomodation, just enquiring on how busy kollam can get and if there is a need to prebook.

Kollam is not very quiet. Have you seen an indian city really quite ?????

There are few nice hotels in Kollam, my advice is to prebook by mail or through the web page. Last 2008 have stayed in Hotel Sudarsan and I reccommend the hotel, the restaurant and even the bar, the hotel is well located. Have paid 900 Rs + tax for a very god ACRoom.
