Kochi,Kottayam to Periyar then Trivandrum

We are only in Kochi ( where should we stay here) for one day two nights before we leave for Kottayam and Periyar park at Taj Garden hotel( is there a good way to get to Periyar Thedikka from Kottayam?) Anyone know of good experiences and good place to stay here. We are then going to get a houseboat which we have been advised not to book online and just go there, then off to Trivandrum for a three day rest(where?) with a bit of sight seeing. Any good ideas for any of these or any information gratefully received. JACKIE

If you want high-budget, Brunton's Boatyard is nice, and you can watch dolphins in the harbour from your balcony.

At considerably less cost, one of the smaller hotels in the same area.

You don't say when you are going or what you budget is but Bruntons is usually heavily booked up to a year in advance so if it is this year you better contact them soon. If your budget is not tight you could also consider Taj Malabar and Taj Residency in Kochi.
