Go for it... it would be an amazing experience, better than the classic houseboat options for sure, and most probably cheaper!
I just returned from Kerala and there are canoe's available for daily hire. I agree with concerns about getting lost etc, a lot of the canals look the same so it would be very difficult to simply rememeber which way you came from and there are no maps, a local guide might be best bet because they could sort out any problems along the way a lot easier than you would be able to. You could try contacting 'Johnsons Nest guest house' in Allepey, I think they organised day hire of canoes etc and would probably be able to offer further advice. I don't have contact details but they are in Lonely Planet, the owner speaks very good english. |
