| Kerala with Children I have a dream of spending the winter (January and February) in Kerala with my two young children (ages 4 and 1.5 years). I was hoping that someone might be able to advise me of the best place to base myself (I plan to fly into TRV from Mumbai). I would like to rent a room or cottage by the beach. Ideally I don't want it to be too touristy but equally I would be worried if it was too isolated as would like to be near a town with a doctors/hospital. I would also love some advice on health issues, for example I have heard that Kerala is Malaria free - is this true? Are there any other hazards I should think of? I would be most grateful for any advice and indeed if you think that it would be ok with children so young. I really want to do this (as my daughter will start school the following september and so it will be last opportunity for a long while to take an extended holiday over the winter) but I keep getting cold feet as I worry I may be putting the children at too much risk? Many Thanks in advance, Cesca |

| For some general reflections on travel with (small) children to India, I was just dropping some existing links on this thread: Babies in Goa! It will have been discussed in other threads too, of course. Good luck with it.

| Hi cesca, Will there be another Adult travelling with you ? Not sure how much time you will have to relax if you are on your own with such young kids. One thing for sure is that you will need a car and driver to show you around,I would not reccomend trying to use Public transport unless you have had considerable experience travelling in India. Who knows you may be able to hire a Local Nanny to help with kids, maybe worth enquiring if drivers wife or daughter could accompany you. Rgds vandy ![]() |

| Thank you Hi Vandy, Many Thanks for your reply. I will be on my own for much of the 6-8 weeks I plan to spend in Kerala (my husband is an academic who has term time commitments but will come for a week or so just to settle me there). My parents may also visit but I had intended to largely stay put - as in to stay in one place by a good beach (any suggestions welcome?) to pass the (uk) winter. A local nanny would be great to help out from time to time - do you know where i should look to find one? I have spent a fair bit of time in India (mainly Goa, Mumbai and Delhi + Raj) but a few years before I had children. Thanks for your advice. Best wishes, Cesca |
