Kerala villa options... help!
Hello
Wondered if anyone can recommend me accomodation for my forthcoming trip to Kerala? A family group of 7 people, mainly in our 20s but the youngest being 14 months and the oldest 60 years old are flying into Trivandrum for a week's stay in Kerala at the end of March. We have been searching for a house or villa to stay in together, but have only come up with 2 options: 1. lovely large villa with pool on Poovar Island - my concerns here are that the only access seems to be by boat 8am-6pm and we would like to go out to Kovalam in the evening sometimes and not be so isolated that people can't "do there own thing" 2. a well-reviewed villa in Kovalam, near to Lighthouse beach - but no pool here and I hear the sea is rough, it would be nice to go swimming for the oldies and the youngies We really would like our own place rather than a hostel or hotel (with our without housekeeper or cook is fine) and we would like to be near to the beach if poss, but have a pool to swim in every day. Perhaps hiring a whole guesthouse would be an option too? We would need atleast 3 doubles and 1 single room with a cot. Can anyone help me out here please? much appreciated... Also - do you get as hassled as Goa on the beach on Kovalam? Many thanks Katy |

You do get hassled on Kovalam beach but not as much as Goa, have you thought about Varkala? It's only forty minutes drive from Trivandrum and the beach is beautiful and people are actually employed to keep the beach clean - very refreshing after being in Goa!

I like to stay at Cliff Lounge - you can find the contact details through the kerala hotel listings on this site. His guest house has around 6 rooms but he will also let people stay at his house which is only 2 mins walk from guesthouse/ beach. When I was in Varkala he had let two Italian families stay in his house. That said it's still very relaxed and like a guesthouse, you don't have to sit and eat with him or anything like that.
Enjoy! ![]() |
