Hello everyone, i am new to IndiaMike so my apologies if this info has all ready been covered. I am planning a trip to Kerala in April 2010. I know the areas i wish to visit but can't find any info on transport and how to get from place to place. Can anyone recommend the quickest/easiest routes and estimate the length of time to travel between places? I am open to using busses, trains & private drivers. Thanks in advance and hopefully on my return i'll be able to pass on my new knowledge to ![]()

Kerala Travel We are planning our return trip to India for January 2010. On our last trip we wandered south from Mumbai to Kerala over three weeks ... eventually flying back to Mumbai for our return home. This time we are flying into Bangalore and zig-zagging our way to Kerala over five weeks. So, I had many of the same questions and found answers in numerous threads on IndiaMike. Getting answers is important, but not half as much fun as looking through the various threads to find those answers.

| Senior Member | Take a overnight bus to Kannur,Northern part of Kerala. Its cheap like 350rs nice buses.. AC would be higher.Start trip down from there and fly back from Trivandrum.5 weeks should be fine enough. Getting from one town/city to another can be easily made in buses...both private/government bus... which can take you between major states/towns in average 3 hrs Kannur-3hrs-Calicut-4-Thrissur-2-Kochi-2-Alaphuza-3-Kollam-2-Trivandrum. |

Thanks everyone. Velu we are thinking of flying in to Kochi and flying out of Trivandrum. We would like to visit Munnar, Thekkady, Kovalam, Varkala and a few places in between. We'd also like to do a backwater cruise but still unsure of a popular route. Aako i think you are definitely right about the fun trying to find threads i have found some great info so far. I hope you have a great trip in Jan and thanks for your info. lathish thats great to hear the busses are reliable and a good form of transport the times were really helpful to i thought it would take a lot longer to get between places.

Sleeper bus We have only had one "sleeper bus" experience, Goa to Mysore, and will do anything possible to avoid another ride. Surviving the outdoor chaos of the circus that doubles as the main Goan bus station, we started our journey in a rear bunk just in front of the rear bunks where the bathrooms usually are where I am sure they put all novice India travelers. That's right, "where the bathrooms usually are", there are no bathrooms, just memories of trying to run after the bus while zipping my pants as the bus crosses a border and the gate swings down. We did get to Mysore the next morning.
