Kerala monsoon

Hello,

I am planning to visit Kerala from the 2nd until the 8th of November. I heard there is a "returning monsoon" until end of October.
Has anyone already traveled in Kerala at this period of time? How was the weather?

I live in Kolkata, and here the monsoon has been really late. Do you think their is a risk of flooded hollydays for me?

Thanks for your answer.

Alex.

I am not really sure about how it would be at the beginning of november. But it was indeed pouring crazily when I visited Munnar last weekend. Heard from the locals that it had been raining non-stop for the past 2-3 days and it was very unusual to have such downpour in October.

Hi there,

Hopefully some Keralaites will guide you on this one.

They do say that the returning monsoon usually affects Southern
Kerala.

I too experienced some rain in October last year, mostly in the
evenings, only once or twice during the day, and they were quite light showers.Area I refer to is Munnar - Thekady(Kumily) and
Allepey.Didn't affect my trip one bit.

The returning monsoon usually strikes in the second half of october..
It may extend into november first week.. But not very sure..

But this time round as we received heavy rains in the last month, which is a tad unusual, the returning monsoon is expected to be short. As andhra has received heavy showers now, we are expecting the returning monsoon very soon that is in 1 week time..

One more tip for the thulamazha..
It usually rains in the afternoons with heavy thunders and lightnings during the north west monsooon..
The morning hours are usually calm..

Edit comes up as a pop-up window; it's pretty quick --- give it a try

Mind you, not to gloat, but i am on 2Mb here. But I had two years of BSNL 256K before that!

If you're on dial-up, however...

You are great mate.. Although you overestimated me.. :-)
I am using my mobile gprs connection.. So pop up windows are not available. And i dont know when i will lose connection.. So easy and fast techniques gets my nod..

Its a bsnl connection and the rate is like 1 rupee per 200kb..
Each page will amount to 25p.. So the cheaper it gets, the better it becomes..

the return monsoon are no way close to the regular monson. Clances of flooding are pretty slim. It usually rains in the evening/nights with a lot of thunder/lightning during this season compared to the raining all day/night for months during the regular monsoons.

Well, I checked for Kochi - the town should get over 300mm of rain in October, yet my GH guy said it has not rained for weeks, and it is just really sticky and unpleasant, with just a 5 min shower the other day. So my guess is no monsoon this year, or late at best, or only in TN. The rain trees and vines are turning yellow...

The Indian monsoons are generally over-rated, except in Mumbai/Goa, as weather patterns change with global warming.
