Day 1 - Arrive Allepey, stay night in Allepey 2 - Public ferry to Kottayam & bus to Kumily, night in Kumily 3 - Bus from Kumily to Munnar, night in Munnar 4 - Day/Night in Munnar 5 - Bus to Cochin early as poss, day/night in Cochin 6 - Morning in Cochin, train back to Goa Thanks hopefully in advance! |

I'm afraid that's going to be really rushed. You'll have hardly any time in the backwaters, and then it would take at least 6 hours on the ferry and bus from Alleppey- Kumily, so you wouldn't have time to take any of the tours to see the wildlife (early morning is best). Then it's another 4.5 hours on the bus to Munnar, and the same from Munnar-Cochin. The journeys often take longer than expected too.
You will spend most days travelling and that gets really tiring, and can be subject to delays. To really enjoy your stay it would be better to focus on a few places. I have suggested various 1 week Kerala itineraries on my blog. To be honest, in just 1 week I would focus on just Cochin and the backwaters. If you really want to then add Munnar or Kumily, but be prepared for 2 quite long travel days, unless you can afford to hire a taxi. Sorry to be negative! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for the feedback, I know what your saying. My reasoning is that I'm spending a week on the beach prior to that and I want to take in as much as possible. I'm not so concerned about focusing on one particular area. I find the bus in India quite a good way to see the country! An alternative would be go straight from Allepey to Munnar, however I don't believe this is feasible? I am only using Kumily as a stopping point as I believe I can not get direct from Kottayam to Munnar (2 buses required) & I think doing it in a day is unlikely given bus times. I'll have a look at your itineries! thanks. ![]() |
