Kerala in June?Any other place? Help me advice my parents

Hi everyone,

I just got back from Inda in February and had a wonderful time. I am indian american (from Hyderabad), and my in-laws are from south Tamilnadu, so we visited relatives, went shopping, visited friends, plus did the touristy stuff as well. For my birthday we drove 4 hours from Tirunelveli to Kovalam (Trivandrum) in Kerala. We stayed at the Taj Green Cove Resort...amazing lovely property...just gorgeous in every way.. I actually wrote a review on tripadvisor.com if you want to check it out..and I WILL write a review here as well..with pictures too! Till then though I need some advice...

My mother father and sister are now planning a trip to India at the end of June. This is the only time they can go to India since my sister graduates at that time. So this trip is her graduation present from professional graduate school. I know India is hot in June! But after seeing my pictures and my video, my family are definetly set on visiting Kovalam and staying at the same Taj Hotel. I think it might be too hot then..what do you guys think? My husband and I went in Jan, it was perfect weather.

Can anyone recommend any 5 star resorts in South India that will be cooler in June? My parents want to take my sister on a resort vacation for a few days..a graduation gift of relaxation. They prefer to go to a resort in South India as it is closer to relatives and easier for them. They are not interested in Ooty and Kodaikanal (already visited). How is Varkala or any other Kerala resort areas in June? Are the backwaters humid in June? I am wondering if there are any resorts in Karnataka, something that is accesible from Bangalore maybe? They prefer five star resorts only, as indian five stars are probably the best in the world in terms of service service service...along with Thailand perhaps. And five stars in India is much economical and gracious than sometimes here in the States..so why not? Anyway any suggestions on a resort area is helpful..

Thanks so much!

Post South India in June

Hi Doc Girl,

The Indian monsoon starts in June. To be precise, it is supposed to hit Rameshwaram by June first and then spread into Kerala. But you can never say.
Generally the weather is extremely hot until the monsoon starts. And after it starts, the weather is plesantly hot.

A good place to stay would be at the Taj in Periyar (Thekkady). I think it is the Taj Garden retreat. The cost should be around $100 per day over here. This would be a good place as your folks can visit the Periyar wildlife reserve. Munnar is close by and there are some resorts over there too. Munnar will be very plesant and cool.

One of the best ways to tour Kerala during the monsoons is by driving. It is absolutely fantastic driving during the rains. They need not travel a lot as Kerala is not that big

If you are looking for resorts in Bangalore, you can try the Golden Palms Spa and Resorts http://www.goldenpalmsspa.com/ or Eagleton Resorts. http://www.eagletonindia.com/

Hope this helps

Kerala is [i]always]/I] humid! It is also always beautiful.

I was going to suggest Peryar too. I've stayed in the Casino Group's Spice Garden there: it is really beautiful. And I always recommend their Coconut Lagoon hotel at Kumerakom for its peace, beauty and the friendliness of the staff.
