Kerala in July with kids for about a week

Hi,

I know I know its the monsoon, but my son has his summer break only then!.
It would be a first visit to KErala for my family(except me, I have been there as a kid many times).

Since this is the first time I am travelling with kids, I would like some help in finding out where to go. Periyar is a definte yes, if someone could suggest other places it would be great

Is one wildlife sactuary enough or can we visit more than one?. How is the visit in the monsoon?. We would be based in Ernakulam, so I guess there are a lot of places within good enough travelling distance.
