Kerala Houseboats in November - AC or NonAC?
Kerala Houseboats in November - AC or NonAC?
Hi
I need a nice houseboat in november first week for 1 night from allepey-kuarakom-allepey. Travelling with a small 2 year old toddler, so don't want to take a chance with hot weather/mosquitoes. Have no clue of kerala weather that time. Has anyone been on a houseboat in november? Would you recommend AC or NonAC?
Thanks
Manish

The cost for a one bed room boat should be in the range of Rs.8 to 10k. May be a bit more in November. There are plenty of agencies but I would recommend Lakes and Lagoons. They are good. Lakes & Lagoon Tour co., Ph: 91 477 2244279.

i think a moquito net is better option ,
because there maybe mosquitos in the ac room and the maintenence may be not so good,
and the boat amy cost you 3-4 k for one night

I went on a backwater cruise...in November...in a non-ac houseboat...which din't have electricity also.
They provided petromax lamp for the evening..it cost rs. 3500 per day for 2 people. It was good enough.
The breeze in the night, when the boat was anchored in a large lake was good. Because it was a non ac boat, the boat was open and had large windows...and it was good.
But, there are mosquities.

I was in the first houseboat when it moved first time through backwaters in 1993 and I have spend 30 - 40 nights in houseboats in different locations as a host.
If the houseboat is anchored in the middle of the lake, where there is plenty of wind and the rooms are smoked before night, there would not be any mosquitoes.
In November, it would be cool at night in Kumarakom Lake.
The price depends on the boat. An exclusive houseboat (one bedroom + one living room) in the route Alleppey – Kumarakom costs like this.
These standard houseboats are really of good standard.
Standard houseboat: Rs 4800 / US$ 114
Standard AC houseboat: Rs 7080 / US$ 169
Deluxe premium houseboat: Rs 5955 / US$ 142
Deluxe premium AC houseboat: Rs 8975 / US$ 214
In Non AC houseboats there would be solar fans.
Have a good time in Kerala.

great rates - reasonable
The rates qouted by palm land is reasonable .Also do nto go for so cheap also you will never get the service .
Always do the house boats with some one responsible who take care of their guests.
If that is not available or not possible try the day cruises in Cochin where travel companies offer a day in a houseboat and small country boats ,More cruising too .
Enjoy Kerala
