In that case, bring it forward to May, or postpone till September if feasible. The monsoons can start in Kerala from the last week of May onwards, although in recent years this has been in or after the 1st week of June. It is so unpredictable. Many, many years ago when I was in school, the first day of school i.e. around June 6th in Mumbai was always a day when we schoolkids would get thoroughly drenched and muddy [in those days it was clean mud]. Nowadays in Mumbai the rains dont even start till the latter half of June, or they start for a few days then cease completely for 2 weeks or so before resuming. It is anybody's guess.

Kerala Rains
The timing might be unpredictable but, It is since the last few years that we surely know that when it rains it floods....atleast in the places that I have stayed...Mumbai & Baroda.
Am hence quite keen to know if at all it is a good idea to travel to the God's country during rains. Am still not getting any good quotes for the taxi...Think I shall take a taxi from Munnar to Kottayam for about 5-6 days at a stretch...cause then would like to take the Bharat service boat to kumarakom..and again by boat to allepey... I would again need to figure out transport from alleppey to Cochin... It all changes if I go by Suez's recommendation of reversing the itinerary flow... |

I dont know if it floods in Kerala, perhaps Pundabee or another Kerala resident member may like to give some accurate info.

How okay is it to travel Kerala during the rains (end of June-July). Any experiences (good or bad) more than welcome. Thanks. |
