Beach knows the waters!

I'm off to Kerala in just a few weeks, with plans to do the private houseboat charter from Quilon to Allapuzha. Thanks for the time you spent writing the post, I found it very helpful. Do you, or anyone else who has done the trip, happen to know if we're going to eaten alive by mosquitos in January?

I've done the private houseboat tour two times.
January 2001 and February 2002.
Okay there were mosquitos esp. during dawn, but not so much, that they can spoil this great tour.
If you wear longsleeve shirts during dawn and maybe a long trouser, I think everything will be okay.
Be sure you have a mosquitos net in your houseboat room.
Using mosquito repellant is also good.

Have a great time!

Backwaters

I did a mini-backwater "cruise" in Kerala on a rickety canoe type boat in '99 and had an amazing experience (albeit injured my feet when we got off at various points because someone had stolen my shoes and I had to walk around barefoot). I especially enjoyed stopping along the way and talking to the villagers......I was deeply impressed by their joy and optimism despite living in poverty (they said it was because of their faith in God)

AC or Non AC boat for backwater trip?

Can anyone help me decide whether to go for AC or non AC boat for a 24 hour back water trip from Alleppey in February 2005. I was under the impression that one should choose an AC boat to keep the mosquitoes away. Anyone know if that is true?
Thanks
Sham

http://www.sreestours.com/houseboat.htm

Has anyone used these for their backwater tour?

Price seems cheaper than others I've seen. What about the route Kumarakom to Alleppey? Is this a good place for a backwater cruise?

Thanks for all your help!
