Is there a "Bundi" in Kerala?

A couple of years back we stopped off in Bundi for a week or so, while traipsing around Rajasthan for a month. I like languid travel and the chance just to stop and take in the rhythm of life, and not rushing or spending lots of time in the very touristed places.

We're going to be doing a (budget) trip to Kerala in October, starting from Trivandrum. I guess we'll follow the standard path from south to north, but would ideally like to nest a few days at least in a few interesting places (i.e. fishing or hill village etc). So, is there a "Bundi" in Kerala?
Thanks!

Last time I looked, there was not a teutonic shift to cause Bundi to Move. Bundi remains where you last stopped off - In Rajasthan. Now, there might be another Bundi in Kerala, who knows.

What I liked about Bundi, was the laidback atmosphere, the absence of a resort/tourism hype (and therefore few touts). Local people just going about their lives. So, that is what I'm hoping to find - similar place but in Kerala. (I do know that Bundi is quite unique!)
Thanks

Dear riroriro,
In kerala you do not find touts, except if you are visiting a famous 'tourist beach or spot'.
There are lots of government approved homestays where you could find your "bundi", specially around Varkala beach,Alleppey backwaters, wyanad and towards munnar (the latter two are hill stations)
google a bit and you would find what you are looking for.
have a great trip
regards

Absolutely! thanks Vino'. I can meet lots of tourists without leaving home. In India, it's all about the people (for me). So, if I was able to find a friendly town like Rajasthan's Bundi in Kerala, I'd love to stay there for a week or so too. Sorry to be confusing.
Cheers

Fantastic - thanks for the advice.
Homestays do sound a really good plan. There is a huge range in costs as advertised through the online sites though. If anyone has experience of some in the R1000 per night range it would be good to hear. We are an older couple - budget but not overly roughing it is our need.

Hi,

I would second the recommendation for Kannur. We love it and it's not (yet) on the regular Kerala tourist route. But soon may be as there is an airport being built.
I always say this is now one of those few places remaining, that in future, people will tell you you should have visited 10 years ago.

We stay at Ezhara Beach House, which is an historic 100 year old homestay, right on the beach. But you will not get it for R1,000, unless maybe you stay in the tent on the roof (which is not as bad as it sounds - it has it's own private shower and toilet and an amazing view!). Don't just take my word for it - read what others say on TA.

Be warned - you have to like eating, as the food is simple awesome and plentiful!

Apart from that - check out Neliampathy, for wildlife and solitude. Again we loved it. No other tourists there when we visited.

Have a read about it here
