Inexpensive Ayurveda resorts in Kerala

Can anyone recommend an Ayurvedic resort stay in Kerala for someone on a budget? If not Kerala, anywhere else in India? (For July)

Hello,
An indian friend of mine recommended the city of Palakkad in Kerala for having excellent ayurvedic treatments at much more reasonable prices than what you can get in touristic places like Kovalam or Varkala. Next time I'll decide to get a treatment in Kerala, that's where I will go.
She didn't mention any particular place. But it seems easy to find one once you are there, particularly in July I would think.
It is located north of Kochi.
Let us know!
Pierre

I've been to a place close to Trivandrum called Treatmenthouse (www.treatmenthouse.com). Vijay, the Vaidya (Ayurvedic physician), is wonderful. His Kerala Traditional Foot Therapy (a massage done by feet) is such a great experiene!
I think it was about 60US$ per day (all inclusive)...

Hi

I had a ayurvedic massage last year in Kerala it was very good. I had mine done in Kovalam...most Hotels can provide the massages, they are not that expensive. I know for a fact if i was to have one done back home in England it would cost much more!

It depends what sort of treatment you want.

There are a lot of charlatans in Kerala without any qualifications selling their “Ayurvedic” treatments. The state government is actively trying to shut down fake Ayurvedic practitioners, but there are still too many trading.

If you are fit and well and you are looking for Ayurvedic fun and relaxation it doesn't really matter where you go, but if you have an existing condition you really must make sure your practitioner is fully qualified or you could come to harm.

I don’t have any medical reason for having Ayurvedic treatments, but I really enjoy going to Moothedan’s Ayurvedic Clinic in Kochi (about an hour from Kochi City). They have a general practitioner who will look after aches and pains and give you the most amazing massages, and a specialist in headache, migraine and sinus problems.

MAC also deals with skin complaints and rejuvenation, dietary problems, and a whole range of other conditions, such as back pain.

It is a family-run concern with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, run by Roshin Moothedan, his father, his wife and a small staff.

According to Roshin, the best time of year for Ayurvedic treatment in Kerala is June to February, so you are timing it just right if you are going in July.

You can pop in for a one-off massage or go for a full treatment that lasts for about 7 to 14 days, depending on your individual needs.

MAH performs all the traditional forms of Ayurvedic treatment including Sukachikilsa, Panchakarma, Rejuvination, and Rasayana treatments.

You can contact Roshin at kailash_spa@yahoo.co.in or telephone 0484-2492940, 0484-3947035, or on his mobile phone on 9447305893.

The clinic is a few minutes from the backwaters and a most beautiful beach on the Arabian Sea, and I am sure that Roshin would arrange transport for you and find accommodation to suit your budget, should you need it.

If you speak to Roshin, tell him Sajeev’s friend John (from the UK) sends his regards.

Have fun – I know you will!

Kerala--ayurveda

Thanks so much for the info. As I will be in Mumbai for two weeks in June I was looking to get away from the rain for a bit before I return home, so had decided to brave the extreme heat of Rajhasthan. But that all sounds so good! What is your personal opinion about visiting Kerala during the monsoons. I really would like to spend time doing things outdoors.

panchakarma

The cost of panchakarma depends on where you have it and where you stay and also the duration of your treatment .

The cost per day can vary from RS.400 to Rs. 2500 for treatment and accomodation can vary from RS.150--- Rs.75000 in Kerala.

Also you have to decide whether you really need Panchakarma and a good Ayurvedic Physician sho is independent should also need to say that you need it for your system .

Even 1% of the people living in kerala are not doing panchakarma in their life time .

Also visit the website www.thirumulpad.com to have a different view of ayurveda.

Unfortunately lot of people are abusing it in the practice , in the treatment .

So very carefull before having one .
