How busy are Munnar/Marayoor in Late December?
Wondering if anyone can advise - planning to visit Munnar/Marayoor around 20th December, are hotels likely to be booked up around this time?
I'd generally prefer to keep my journey flexible, but have found some places are booking up fast (e.g. Cochin). But then it's peak tourist season there, I presume in the hills the lower temperature will mean it's quieter at this time? Thanks |

I think your presumption is wrong, I'm afraid.
Peak season for all of South India. Figure that very many of those people booking up the Kochi hotels will be including hill station(s) in a tour. My theory, anyway....

Thanks Nick,
My presumptions seem to be wrong a lot when it comes to India... I should just get used to it I suppose. Planning things too thoroughly in advance makes me nervous, but then so does arriving after a long journey and there being nowhere to stay. I'll get booking... |

Munnar will be cold in December (according to us Indians :P). Day time temparature will be around 15 C. Night time may be around 8 or 10C. So not much Indians visiting in December and January.
Munnar has got lot of Hotels and resorts in recent times, so its easy for you to get a Hotel there in Winter. (Also you can bargain on the rates) Marayoor will be better, but not much tourists here. Also few Hotels only there to stay. (But a nice Place, Snadalwood reservoir of Kerala) (I am a native of Udumalpet, which is about 80 kms from Munnar and about 40 Kms from Marayoor. Now I live in Chennai) |

15C doesn't sound too bad compared to London at the moment...
I really like the sound of Marayoor from what I've read. Not many tourists is good. |

Yes, Marayoor is like small village. You can have small trecks from there. This Place is mostly surrounded by Sandalwood forest.

Mano, any recommendations on where to stay in Munnar / Marayoor? Apologies if this has been asked many times in the past. I will be in Kerala, next week and hopefully in Munnar the week after. I haven't booked anything yet and starting to get wee bit nervous now..!

Munnar is fine, even if you turn up around X-mas you'll find something. We stayyes\d at Tea Count; excellent. Read our report by following the link below.

My wife and I are planning on Marayoor around 20th Dec, but have had no luck making reservations over the net. I'd love to hear if anyone has success with that although Dhans post is reassuring!

Marayoor is a small village, so it may not be possible to book hotels over net.
December, January is winter time here, so no local tourists. It means not crowded. You can get hotels on arrival. |

You may try to stay in sterling resorts or Mahindra Club. Its not in the Munnar town itself, but they are located in beatifull places. |

have a look at MARAYOOR on wikipedia. lovely description on there and it told me about things that i didn't know were in the area..so, i will just have to go back, won't i?! the hotel is a few minutes walk from bus stand. the bus from munnar goes past it. didn't find a great restaurant there, though. they may have a better cook at the hotel restaurant, by now. let us know how you fare. |
