Houseboats in Kerala
re: houseboats in Kerala
I would have liked to, they looked pretty cool and relaxing, but they are not cheap, and there didn't seem to be any easy way to book a group.
While that may not appeal to everyone, some of the boats looked big enough to accomodate maybe six people, and that would have made the trip more affordable. It would be great if a few booking agents would get started in Kollam (Quilon) or Alappuzha (Alleppey). Maybe next time ...

I have not been on one myself. A houseboat in Alleppey (Allapuzha) could cost upto Rs 5000 for one day/night for a couple. This includes all meals and taxes. You can get better deals, depending on the house-boat operator. You would have the houseboat to yourself. There would be a cook, a boatman and one more person to assist (total of three people) on the boat, but lots of privacy.
Downside, I have heard, is the mosquitoes and some parts of the river do not smell so good.
