Say hi to Saajan Nick... Used to be Saajan, uncle when I was a kid

Must be decades since I went to Lucia, but then it was the only decent food option in TVM. Now ofcourse there is a great place near the TV station

I'm sure Lucia was once nice.

I'm sure it'll be nice again.

Just now, however, it is a building site and our stay there was reminiscent of TV programmes about nightmare mediteranean holidays

We moved rooms twice, had to make special request for a break from the building noise when we needed to take rest in the day, and the last straw was when some idiot decided that, as he wanted to start another job the next day (builders: the same the world over?), that he would drill some big holes in some concrete pillars just after midnight.

Now, I am as irritable and as prone to crossness as any of the non-yogis here ( ) but real anger is a once a decade thing for me. I experienced it that night, and probably left the guy on the desk wishing he had lied when I asked if he was in charge of the building. Then it was . I guess I'd calmed down quite a bit by the time the general manager was got on the phone and promised to come straight away.

We saw him the next morning, and probably got as abject an apology as anyone ever had from a hotel manager --- and I did accept his sincerity.

He was totally astonished, claiming that it would be just impossible (given labour relations in Kerala) for him to get someone to work that late if he wanted them to, and that there had been a complete failure of security to even allow the guy on site, in fact a complete failure all round. Some discount was given and accepted, although money can't replace a good night sleep.

Yes, the food was good, when we ate there, though I'm just as happy eating out at a fraction of the cost.

Our final three nights relaxation at Thapovan was delightful.

Hotel reviews when I get a Round Tuit.

Don't think I met anyone called Saajan.

I did go a bit crazy with the shopping and now have another 18 vestis. Sorry; mundus. But Kerala vestis are so much more fancy than the TN ones: can't get enough of them!

did you by chance get into a timewarp into the "carry on" series? Vague recollections of some slapdash comedy about people in a hotel, where renovation is going on.

"Carry On Abroad" I am sure that Nick has seen it reading by this remark.... Albeit ofcourse the interesting aspects!

I do not think Lucia was ever much in the fav list of travellers. Though I thought it would have improved over the years and you may have had a better reference for starting off with them.. Anyhow water under the bridge and you have a coffee table story for the years to come!

Saajan owns the place and is the reason for the 'saj' in the webpage.

Oh, that's what Saj is; ok.

Yes, coffee under the bridge indeed! And a book for the water table.

Never was much of a fan of the Carry On films, but yes... apart from there being no buxom women it was rather like that. I think the builder was probably being played by Sid James

Doing some research into Kerala for a getaway and came across this.

I just thought i'd mention that with the google search engine clients pay to have their website 'promoted' to the top of the list. So sometimes if you are looking for a specific hotels website for instance it is more benificial to use an alternative search engine.
