A Happy New Year to you too and welcome to Indiamike.

Munnar has more places in the vicinity to visit than Kodai, which is not far as the crow flies, but double the distance by road.

Take a flight / train to Cochin or Coimbatore, whichever is more suitable for you, and hire a taxi from either of these airports to drive you to Munnar. Its a good idea to arrive in the morning because both routes are very scenic which you can enjoy in the daytime.

Sightseeing: The usual tourist circuit are the Madupetty Lake, Kundala Lake and Top Station which are all on the same road; Eravikulam NP, Maraiyur [sandal forest / prehistoric dolmens], Chinnar NP along the same route; several decent sized waterfalls on the Cochin road; tea estates of Chinnakanal, Devikulam and Kollukumalai [jeep visit possible up steep, windy road] - on the same route; visit to Periyar Sanctuary 3hrs drive southward et al.

The longer you stay, the better you can enjoy the region at a leisurely pace.

Have a look at the hotels section for reviews or check http://hotelsinmunnar.com/ and similar sites. Broadly the hotels are located in the Pothamedu, Chinnakanal or Munnar town areas. I personally preferred the Chinnakanal area because of the high mountains, valley and lake views, but there are plenty of options at your budget range to choose from. Most hotels also offer packages with breakfast and dinner, the food is usually good thanks to the immense competition.

Having a car at your disposal during the trip makes life so much more convenient, especially as you are on your honeymoon. We used inspirekerala.com who are Munnar based for our trip in July, they were good. You can also get quotes from virtually all the operators if you post on the message board of keralatourism.org

If you are interested, you can go through my trip report at http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...uide-may-2008/

Also look through this Kerala forum for a lot of recent information.

1.Each places has its own beauty.so it depends on the persons perception. My humble opinion go to munnar.
2.Best way is train.reach coimbatore->udumailaipettai->munnar.other route which is a bit circutous is chennai-madurai-theni-bodi-munnar.there are buses from udumalaipettai and theni to munnar.
3.i have compiled some places
Munnar:
1)Thattekad bird sanctuary.
The places in and around are basically divided in four roads or directions :
1) Mattupetty : In this direction you have these places to visit
a) Photo Point : Good places to take snaps in the tea garden (4 km) y
b) Mattupetty Dam (11 km) y
c) Indo-Swiss Project : This place is a must visit (13 km) y
d) Shooting Point : Place where many south Indian movies have been shorted (14 km) n
e) Echo Point (17 km) n
f) Elephant Arrival Spot (20 km) n
g) Kundale Lake : Don’t miss the Boat ride here (25 km) y
h) Top Station (about 6300 ft above the sea level) : This is in the border of Kerala and tamil nadu, there is a way to Kodai from this palce. We need to walk down for about a 1 km to reach this stop from the road, it is a terrific sight, and you can also see the world?s highest tea plant from this place. (32 km) y

2) Coimbatore : In this direction you have these places to visit
a) Anaimudi, Highest Peak in South India (about 8853 ft above the sea level,20 km) y
b) Nyamakad Waterfalls : Samll but a beautiful falls (8 km)y
c) Eravikulam National Park : You get great view of munar from this national park, one has to walk about 1.5 km and you will also find a rare and endangered wild goat which can walk on mountains, we were privileged that we could see them (13 km) y
d) Lakkam Falls (26 km) y
e) Sandal Wood Forest : This drive is just too good (35 km) n
g) Wildlife Sanctuary (Chinnar) : You can also go trekking here to a falls which is flows through the jungle , the falls is about 8 kms from the road.Pls take care not to honk or make noise when going through the forest since there are good chances you may miss out some wild life (63 km) y

3) Cochin : In this direction you have these places to visit
b) Pothemedu View Point : A beautiful view spot for Sunset, there are couple of resorts near by this view point, you can also see coffee and cardamom plantations here. (5 km) y
c) Attukkadu Water Falls (10 km) y

4) Thekkady : In this direction you have these places to visit
a) Sita Devi Lake : Cannot miss this beautiful lake and scape (22 km) y
b) Lock Heart Gap View : Should I explain this view (14 km) y
d) Resorts Village View (18 km) y
e) Anaiyirankal Dam View (18 km) y

those marked with y are worth visiting and n are not worth visitng.Sita devi lake is under tata tea estate i dont know if they will let you in thats what your travel agent will tell and he will also tell theres nothing in chinnnar except if you go for trekking.he will also tell these days people are not allowed to view pointts in top station.dont know how much is true.

dont try to visit all the places as you are on honeymoon tour.just laze around enjoying the beauty of munnar and ur bride .

4)2-3 days is enough for sightseeing purpose.
5)LAs palmas devikulam is below your budget and its great.its out of city but that adds to its charm.
http://www.sealordhotels.com/tarrif.htm . see las palmas.
6)car.dont even think abt buses.
