@Rahulmee,
For Kodaikanal, [Not a Homestay] but Hotel Tamilnadu [Government of Tamilnadu Owned] is economical & the location is Nice / Calm & secluded and Lake is walkable distance from this place ! Hope this helps |

marayoor...
30ks from munnar is marayoor. i preffered it to munnar and at the marayoor tourist home the rent is really budget. there is a national park to visit not far away and the scenery and trip there is lovely. not sure if it is on the way to kodaikanal, though.

From Marayoor you can go to Kodaikanal via Udumalpet and Palani. From Palani there is a road going straight to Kodai. There may even be a short cut to Palani somewhere between Amaravathy and Udumalpet, but Im not sure about the road condition.

Talking about Munnar, can anyone tell me how is Devikulam nearby? Is it scenic? Convenient? How is Springdale Resort in Devikulam? They seem to be cheaper than others.
Rahulmee I stayed in J's Heritage Resort last May and I liked it. Their all inclusive package is quite reasonable. They are on the web or you can pm me for the contact numbers if you are interested.

Rahulmee Devikulam is very serene and scenic, surrounded by extensive tea estates. It is between Chinnakanal [where Mahindra, Sterling, Munnar Fort and Sienna Village are] and the Chokkanadu tea estates, about 18km before Munnar town. I saw some hotels on the main road but dont remember the names. They were obviously quite popular as several tourbuses occupied the parking lot. About convenience, it depends on what you want to do. Devikulam is virtually a small village, so will not have all the 'conveniences' of Munnar town. It is good for tea garden visits, and if you can get permission to visit the Devikulam lake within an estate, nothing like it. It is close to the Lockhart Gap, and to Kolukumalai. It takes about 20min by car to get to Munnar town from Devikulam. The Madupetti and Kundala lakes, Top Station, Rajamalai and the scenic Marayoor region are beyond Munnar town. Personally, I think the best views are from the Chinnakanal area hotels. The Pothamedu side hotels also have views but not as spectacular as from C'kl. If you find out anything new about Devikulam, please do post. To Rahulmee If you can somehow wangle a stay at the Kodaikanal club [Rs 1300 off season rate for heritage stone cottage + sumptuous B/F], do so. Its the best location, right on the lake, in beautiful heritage cottages. But you need to know a member to get a booking. The Tamil Nadu hotel is best value otherwise [Im a great fan of TTDC], but the location is not the best, compared to the lake. Its a good uphill walk [10min - fast pace] to the lake, although there are some short cut steps in one of the hairpin bends en route. Last edited by snonymous : Jul 24th, 2008 at 18:50. Greenview Munnar
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about the Greenview guest house in Munnar. I am thinking of staying there in January. I understand that it will be fairly basic as the price is low but i wondered if anyone had any feedback? Thanks |
