Hidden Temple

I read in a tourist guide book, I cannot remember which, that there is a temple hidden away in the jungle. There is noone who guards it although the government now know of its existance and have down as a project. It is only accessible by jeep for a 9km run. Has anyone an idea which one it is? mJackie

temples.

I am not sure to tell you the truth. All I know is that it was in a tourist book about south india. I think it said you could get so far then the rest must be by jeep for 9km. It said it was okay to go into the temple as there was noone there watching it. I thought it might have been the one near mannur but it says in another brochure that one is only open on some holiday. It sounded an exciting place to go to as it was overgrown and hidden and one of the latest temples to be discovered. Jackie

There may be more than one "hidden" temple...

Do you remember the name of the tourist book? If someone on here has it, they may be able to give you the details.

I saw one in that 'Jungle Book' movie with Jason Scott Lee, Sam Neill & John Cleese. It was full of jewels & treasures too. But there was a bad acting orangatan named King Louie, some nasty serpents and a rather large tiger guarding it all ..... so watch your bottom if you go looking for it.

Many stray villages have temples in the nearby surrounds that don't appear in any literature that I know of. Well worth exploring for..

Thans for all your replies. I know I read it somewhere that this temple was a newly found one and totally surrounded by undergrowth and it was a significant find. Oh well, maybe the locals will know. I have a feeling it was either in the Periyar Park, or the Wayanad district.

Thanks again.

Not sure but whether you are refering to Thirunelli temple,Waynad district , Kerala ?.. Anyways now Private buses ply to this temple from mananthavadi and this temple has nice scenic surroundings with Brahmagiri mountain Ranges in the back drop..This temple can be reached from Kutta-tholpetty-Mananthavadi Road (Detour for 9 kms just after tholpetty WLS)

Attaching few photos Which I took some time back in this place .. Is this the place ?
