Help with travel! Places around Kochin?

Hi Indiamikers, I'm asking for your help!

My dad and I will be arriving by train into Ernakulam from Bangalore. My thought was that we would spend one night in Munnar, one night in Kochin, and then fly back to bangalore... but I didn't realize how far Munnar was. Does anyone have recommendations for anything near Kochin or a good place to spend 2 nights where we could see things, relax, have good meals, etc? The tea plantation sound gorgeous, but it seems to be too far a drive to be worthwhile...

any sugguestions would be great. Thank you so much!

Depending on your budget you could stay in Fort Kochi or Willingdon Island (Taj Malabar Hotel, Casino Hotel). You could spend a day cruising the backwaters (your hotel could arrange this or book it at the KDTC office in Ernakulam). Spend some time in Fort Kochi (Dutch Palace, Jewish area, antique shops etc. Cherai beach would be another option (quieter during the weekdays).

Send a message via Skype™ to lathish
just spend two nights in Kochi and enjoy it if you spend one night Munnar another night in Munnar its more travelling and staying in hotel
Also give atleast 1.5/2 hrs travelling time from any part of kochi to airport add to it minimum time of 1 hrs to check in
so probably you wont have much left on day you fly so stick around kochi and have fun

Skip Munnar as it's at least a 7-8 hr by road (to and fro) from Kochi. Visit the places mentioned suggested here particularly Athripalli falls(don't miss for the 20 mins trekking amidst the rain forest).

Thattekad (Salim Ali Bird Santuary) is also good but it's worth going there only if you plan to stay there for a night.

Kerala

Try the backwaters from Cochin. Half-day, one day, one day + night. There are many options. That will be nice.

I once went with a group... i think it will be better to hire one for yourself and navigate youself if u r allowed...

Good restaurants in Kochi
Veg:
Dwaraka - South Junction
BTH - Near Ernakulam Temple

Non Veg:
Tandoor - Near Ernakulam Temple

Munnar is approx 6 hours drive from Kochi. Place is good.

Then there is Vagamon, its also quite long, but nice place.

Thekkady is a tourist spot. Boat ride.

Thekkady also has option for one day, half day safari's etc.

As much as possible, dont depend on brokers. Contact everyone direct. Enquire online. Will be cheaper and easier.
