Help with Kerala lodging, sites, backwater
We are (2 of us) flying into Cochin the middle of November for 7 nights and need some recommendations and prices. I've looked through the Websites but thought 1st hand experience is best.
I would also like the approximate price on the following. Recommended hotel (trying for under $100/night) or apartment in a good area (preferably near a beach). Advice on overnight houseboats? Can I rent a car or car and driver? Any other information you might think helpful for our first trip to Cochin would be immensly appreciated. We have done the Delhi-Jaipur-Agra tour and enjoyed that very much so we want to return to a different part of India. |

The Woodlands is a nice hotel in Cochin, and close to the waterfront. The Golkum is newer, and a little more expensive. Every hotel in town is less then 100usd per night except for the Le Meridian resort.
I am now staying in a house provided by my job, but my first two nights I stayed at the golkum, and the 3rd night in town I stayed at the Woodlands. Both were very comfortable. |

Last year I stayed at Fort House, Fort Cochin close to the Chinese nets. Clean, confortable place with friendly staff.

dear Friend
2500 is a fair amount to get a 3 star accomadation in cochin . or any where in kerala . 100$ you can get 5* if you try to talk directly to the marketing dept before reaching the hotel . one night in house boat amy be aroung 3000-4000 (i am not sure ) but a lot of people regret if the spend more than one night in a house boat . and day trip is also preferable to see the back water life . regards Kiran |
