Help for Ernakulam itinerary!

Me and my friends are traveling to Ernakulam from Bangalore on the 28th of December. We have 3 free days during the long Christmas weekend. Can anyone please point out an itinerary to spend these days would be great?

It would be useful if you give the type of holiday you are planning, the type of places you wanna see and the amount of travel you intent to make between places..

Visit Fort Kochi, maybe go to a Kathakali performance or the Kalaripattu martial arts centre. Spend a day on Cherai Beach (Vypeen Island. Take a one day trip along the backwaters (arranged through the KTDC). Go for a meal at Frys Village Restaurant (good genuine Keralan food. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pointers,we are looking at a more relaxed holiday, some quality time around a few good beaches.
Also plan to include Munnar or Thekkady in the time span.
Distance is of no issue, as we are up for traveling up to 100km a day :-)
Like a day in Munnar or Thekkady then the rest near Cherai? Is this a feasible option ?
How is the beach Cherai ? Haven't found much stuff to read about it on the net, so am relying on some feedback here :-)

Munnar is about 3-3.5hours by car so a 7 hour round trip will not leave you much time in Munnar for a 1 day trip.
Cherai beach is very long and there are some busy and quiet parts. There are plenty of reasonable hotels either on the beach or next to the backwaters. The water is safe and quite clean. We visit Cherai most years when saying in Ernakulam. http://www.cheraihotels.com/ will give you some information.

Munnar with one day will be tiresome..
Same with thekkady..
You can spend one day or two in cochin in cherai beach..
One day round trip is possible to aathirappilly waterfalls which is a good round trip infact covering aathirappilly, vazhachal and thumpoormuzi..
That is only 75 kms away from cochin..

Take a day or half day tour with the KTDC into the backwaters.
We did the full day and it was great.

Thanks tittoo and vonkla, these tips are real helpful

Another option I'm looking at right now, is to reach Periyar directly on 25th afternoon and spend time till 26th evening, plan to do the infamous boat ride and a trek. Start from Periyar on the 26th evening reach Cochin and do the back water package by KTDC for the entire day on the 27th. Am actually coming to Ernakulam for a wedding on the 28th, so planning things around that.Do you feel this is feasible?

Itinerary looks fine butdue to the Thekkady Boat tragedy boat rides have been postponed although by Christmas it is more than likely they will be running again.
