I found the new Varkeys in Old Railway Station Road that runs parael to Banajee road better than the one in MG Road. They also sell fresh fish and meat.

looking for obscure international ingredients

Hello knowledgeable friends,

First question... we are missing tomato paste and chocolate chips. I know it sounds silly, but it would mean a lot if we could find these.

We will be in Cochin tomorrow and have heard that it is easier to find international foods in Cochin than it is here in Trivandrum. Can anyone recommend a specific store in Cochin where we might find either chocolate chips or tomato paste? The alternative is asking family to mail it from the U.S., which is ridiculous...

The other question is, does anyone know of an internet or mail-order source of Korean ingredients in India? I am looking for gochujang -- Korean red chili paste. I realize this is a longshot. While I'm at it, how about Thai red curry paste? Also a longshot I would think.

Thanks everyone.

You could try Abad Plaza in MG Road. There is a small supermarket there next to the Abad Hotel that sells many things you might not find in a more usual Indian supermarket. They might have tomato paste (puree) - not sure about chocolate chips as I have never looked for them but they certainly sell a wide range of biscuits.

Thanks so much. As it turns out I didn't make it to Abad... I have found tomato puree here in Trivandrum but paste -- the concentrated ultra-thick stuff -- no. Ah well. Thanks for the help; much appreciated.
