four day three night travel itinerary - Kerala

Hello All,

We (me & my wife) are planning a holiday for four days and three nights in Kerala. During this we are interested in visiting Munnar and Alleppy (amongst other places). I am hoping to travel without having to take a packaged tour offered by a travel planner, because we could be on our own and spend more time at a place if we want to.

Can you suggest if that would be a good idea.. I know it will be easier going with a travel planner, but we might just miss the adventures of traveling on our own.

Also help in coming up with a good itinerary. Our personal choice is to spend couple of nights in Munnar, take a Motor boat cruise through Periyar Tiger Reserve forest in Thekkady and spend third night in the house boat at Alleppey.

Is this pushing ourselves too much or is it do-able?

Considering that we want to do this without any travel agency, suggest good place to stay in Munnar and a good car rental agency in Cochin. What might be a good deal in hiring an A/C car for this travel?

Or, should we just get into a packaged tour?

Your guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Praveen

This is quite Do able ,slightly hectic
Day 1. -> Drop in to Munnar and check in plus sightseeing
Night 1 -> Stay in Munnar
Day 2. -> checkout from hotel + Munnar sightseeing .Afternoon leave for Thekkady
Night 2 -> Stay in Thekkady (Here I surely recommend Lake Queen )
Day 3 -> Sightseeing tour of Periyar in the morning. Come back and checkout from hotel before lunch. Rush to Alleppy. (This is the difficult part as Alleppy is 100 + kms away ) .Try to reach Alleppy around 3 PM .
After 3pm + night 3 -> HouseBoat cruise on backwaters
Day 4 -> Leave Houseboat and start return.

Some minor details on Munnar/Thekkady from my travels http://snehansu-love2travel.blogspot...odaikanal.html
