First time in India
Hi,
This august will be the first time in India for me and my wife. We booked two weeks at Manatheeram beach resort, but prieviously we will have a week for visiting a little bit of Kerala. Day 1[/b]: 5.00am land in Trivandrum. In train to Cochin. I bought ticket for two trains: first 8.10am & 2nd 1.00pm(to be sure) 2AC tier tickets were the best avaiable. Which hotel in Cohin do you suggest for a 4.000 INR budget per night? Day 2& Day 3: we think to stay in Cochin to inhabit and for planning the next days. Is it correct? Some suggestion for days 4-5-6-7? Thanks a lot! |

Welcome to IndiaMike -- and congratulations on your first visit to India!
In Cochin, many years ago, I visited the old synagogue and someone took me into a warehouse where they were storing big sacks of peppercorns. The scent was intoxicating ... Others will have more recent information for you!

Check out the hotel section for a listing of some hotels in Kochi. There are many hotels in Kochi/Ernakulam to suit all budgets. Contact the Kerla Tourist Office in Kochi for a more complete list.
You could consider going to Alleppey and take a rice boat along the backwaters for 24 hours or if time is short go on a one day trip on the back waters which you can book at the toursit office at the ferry port in Ernakulam and will only cost you about Rs450for a great day out. You could also consider getting a car and driver and going up to Munnar in the Western Ghats (about 3 hours from Kochi). Stay for 1/2 days and visit the tea plantations, spice gardens, Top Station, the dams and just take in the marvellous scenery. It will be cooler there as it is up in the mountains and maybe a relief from the heat of Kochi. In Kochi as said you can visit the synagogue, the chinese fishing nets, the markets, Mattancherry with its antique and souvenir shops or just wander around for a while getting a flavour of daily life and culture. |
